He became the most decorated athlete in the history of inline skating.
A Mexican-American transitioned to the ice at the age of 16. As a long track speed skater, he won multiple medals around the world culmunating in an Olympic gold medal in the 1,500 and silver in the 5,000 in Salt Lake City. Parra continued to compete through the 2006 Winter Olympics and retired as a skater after the Torino Games.
